If you’re a copywriter or you’re the one doing the copywriting for your business, you need some tools to help you along the way.

If you’re searching for the best tools for copywriters, then you’re in the right place. tools not only help make the creative writing process easier but they can also speed things up too.

There are so many places where you can use copy, from websites, social media and e-mail campaigns, to eBooks, leaflets and much much more.

So how do you make sure that you’ve got a great copy?

With tools of course.

In our selection, there are some paid tools and some free ones. What you’ll find is most of the free tools are freemium, meaning that yes, they offer a free version but to get the best out of it, you need to pay.

That being said though, a lot of these tools are affordable and will improve your copywriting so the investment is more than justified.

Here are our 8 favourite writing tools (both free and paid)

Grammarly

Grammarly is perhaps the most complete tool you need for copywriting.

Using Grammarly helps you to make sure your text is grammatically correct and that there are no embarrassing errors.

They have a good free version but the premium version is even better, helping you to spot plagiarism and offering more options.

There’s a Google Chrome extension too which makes it simple to use on your WordPress website.

Pro Writing Aid

Pro Writing Aid is the main competitor to Grammarly and offers a great experience helping to catch all your grammatical mistakes, helping to make style improvements and offering vocabulary enhancers.

It’s a similar price level to Grammarly too, perhaps, try out the free version and see if you like it.

Surfer SEO

Surfer SEO is a tool that helps analyse your web pages against others that are ranking in the top positions for the keywords you want to target.

Basically what it does is show you the page structure, how many H tags, and keyword densities to help show you what you need to do to get to the top.

Be careful though, we find it’s better to write first than Surf after, it can be a bit off-putting starting from scratch thinking you have to get those words in.

Do it naturally then see what Surfer SEO suggests.

Emotional Marketing Value – Headline Analyzer

Headline Analyzer is a great little tool that not many people have heard of. According to the Institute “most professional copywriters’ headlines will typically have 30%-40% EMV words in their headlines.

This is great if you want your page titles or other titles to provoke curiosity, this little tool can help you meet the emotional needs of your target audience better.

Canva

But Canva is not a writing tool?

It isn’t but it can be a writer’s best friend.

We always need to add images to content and with a very affordable subscription from Canva which is around £10, it makes it simple to add images when you want to.

There is a free version of Canva, however, you’ll probably find most of the images you want to use are in the paid version, but with its affordability, it’s certainly a tool you’ll want to be making use of.

Cold turkey

We love Cold Turkey, it’s free for a basic plan or there’s a premium plan too if you need more from it. What this does is it helps remove distractions like the entire internet.

Using cold turkey allows you to block your computer from visiting certain websites for certain periods to help you focus on what you’re writing.

Jasper (formerly Jarvis)

Jasper is an AI content writing tool that helps take the hard work out of writing.

Ok, so it’s AI, but that doesn’t mean you can just use it to create whatever you want and it’ll make it perfect.

Jasper writes content in specific blocks, so say you start with a headline that you create, then click start writing, it will add a hundred or so words of content underneath.

Whilst it’s great for helping, it’s not able to be creative enough to bring new ideas to the table.

AI content is being talked about a lot at the moment but in our opinion, if you want content that you want your users to engage with, then you need to make it original and do it yourself.

But let’s say you’ve got a 10,000 piece of copywriting to do, using AI could save you around 25% by auto-generating content that’s perhaps not as important and is more general.

SEM Rush

Using a tool like SEM Rush helps you to find keywords to place in your incredibly important copywriting.

Not only can you find great keywords, but you can also find lots of questions related to what you’re searching for.

When it comes to creating content for SEO SEM Rush is an incredible tool and will help save you a lot of time.
